The WorkForce WF2 is a clip-on pendant that raises an alarm when the wearer falls, stays still for a set time or presses its emergency button. Alarms travel over Grace's 902–928 MHz radio (licence-free under the maker's US, Canadian and Australian/NZ approvals; use in Japan unconfirmed) to other pendants, an on-site monitoring base or a gateway linked to the maker's cloud; the pendant has no mobile or satellite link itself. Its colour screen shows who is in alarm and handles preset messages.

Reduces

Delayed help when a lone worker falls, stops moving or cannot call out

Suitable for

Crews working in a shared area within radio range of each other, an on-site monitoring base or a gateway (maker's figure: about 1.6 km line of sight, about 18,600 m² indoors, extendable with repeaters). The maker recommends WorkForce pendants for construction (work at height, confined spaces, utility work) and for cold storage and food processing, and lists water and wastewater plants and lift stations among uses for its lone-worker pendants.

Not suitable for

Areas that require intrinsically safe equipment: the maker lists the WF2's intrinsic safety as not rated and offers other pendants for such areas. For workers who move between separate sites far from any base, the maker points to its cellular MicroCELL pendant instead.

The maker's warnings (11)

01 · Functions

What the WF2 senses, shows and sends

Most of these work pendant to pendant, with no base or internet. The out-of-range alert needs a Grace base, and location needs locator beacons or the GPS option.

  • Fall and no-motion sensing

A gyro and accelerometer detect a fall of about 1.2 m or more, or no movement for the set time (90 s by default). A pre-alert of roughly 12–15 s sounds first, so a wearer who is fine can cancel it.

  • An alarm you hear, see and feel

The alarm sounds at 70+ dBA at 3 m (maker's figure) with flashing LEDs and vibration. The sound pauses briefly in each cycle to help rescuers tell which direction it is coming from.

  • Emergency button, even when off

Holding the emergency button for about 2 s sends a distress alarm whether the pendant is on or off. When ordering, the top button can instead be set to broadcast an Evacuate command.

  • The screen shows who needs help

When another Grace pendant in range goes into alarm, the colour OLED screen shows that worker's name and, with locator beacons or GPS, their location. Monitoring can be limited to chosen groups.

  • Preset text messages

Up to 80 preset messages, written on a Windows PC with Grace's configuration tool, can be sent from the keypad. The WF2 also receives messages from other WF2s, monitoring bases and Grace software.

  • Evacuate, Abandon and range alerts

Evacuate and Abandon signals each have their own tone and LED, and the wearer confirms receipt with the side buttons. An optional out-of-range alert warns the wearer on leaving the base's coverage.

02 · Alarm path

How a WF2 alarm reaches help

The WF2 has no mobile or satellite modem. It signals other Grace equipment over 902–928 MHz radio, licence-free under the maker's US, Canadian and Australian/NZ approvals (use in Japan unconfirmed), and only a gateway links that network to the internet.

  1. WorkForce WF1 and WF2 side by side, the WF2 screen reading Fall Alarm
    01

    The pendant goes into alarm

A fall, the no-motion timer running out or the emergency button starts the alarm after a short pre-alert. The pendant sounds, flashes and vibrates on the spot and transmits an emergency radio signal.

  2. Maker's diagram: two WF1 pendants and one WF2 linked by Grace's radio network
    02

    Nearby pendants alert co-workers

Pendants with alarm monitoring on ring and flash; a WF2 also names the worker and, with beacons or GPS, shows where they are. Two pendants make a Buddy set, three or more a Supervisor or Crew setup.

  3. 03

    Repeaters stretch the coverage

Grace gives about 1.6 km line of sight and about 18,600 m² indoors, depending on the building. Pendants relay signals, MR3 and T3 repeaters fill dead zones, and two units in survey mode can check coverage.

  4. Maker's diagram: WorkForce and TPASS 3 pendants signalling an MS3000X base with light and siren
    04

    A base alerts the site

On-site bases such as the MS2000X or the portable PWA receive the alarm and drive a light and siren, Grace-Watch PC software, or outputs to an alarm panel or SCADA. This route needs no internet or subscription.

  5. Maker's diagram: pendants reach a gateway by radio, which reaches Grace Cloud Connect over cellular
    05

    A gateway reaches the cloud

Gateways (GFG over Ethernet or Wi-Fi; GMG, MS3000X or PWA over cellular, some with Iridium satellite) pass alarms to Grace Cloud Connect, which alerts supervisors by SMS or e-mail. This link has a subscription.

03 · Setups

Three ways to monitor WF2 wearers

The pendants and radio are the same in all three; what changes is where the alarm lands and whether a subscription applies.

06 · Warnings

Grace's warnings before you rely on the WF2

Our summary, then the maker's own words

  • Grace calls any no-motion time longer than 90 s potentially dangerous, because it delays the response to a worker who is incapacitated.

In the maker's words: WARNING: Any motion sensing Alarm Time period longer than 90 seconds is potentially dangerous to the user of this product. graceindustries.com

  • Setting the no-motion time to zero in the configuration tool switches no-motion protection off.

In the maker's words: NOTE: Setting the timing to zero (0) will DISABLE the no-motion sensing protection. graceindustries.com

  • Fall detection does not catch every kind of fall. Grace asks wearers who are able to press the emergency button after any fall, whether or not the pendant reacted.

In the maker's words: IMPORTANT: WorkForce® model WF2 is not capable of detecting all possible types of fall events. graceindustries.com

  • The pendant must be fixed firmly to the wearer's gear or clothing for falls to be detected accurately.

In the maker's words: IMPORTANT: For WorkForce® to accurately detect a fall, the device must be securely attached to the user. graceindustries.com

  • Test the pendant before every use.

In the maker's words: Before each use, test the WorkForce® device to ensure it is functioning correctly and that all features are operating as intended. graceindustries.com

  • While in setup mode the pendant cannot monitor or log alarm, page, PAR or roll-call messages.

In the maker's words: WARNING: While in Setup Mode, the Alarm, Page, Par, and Roll Call messages CANNOT be monitored or be logged in the WorkForce®. graceindustries.com

  • Units in radio survey mode do not work as safety devices.

In the maker's words: IMPORTANT NOTE: WorkForce® units placed in Survey mode are not operational as a safety device. graceindustries.com

  • Gateways and bases must be off during a radio survey, which leaves workers unmonitored until they are switched back on.

In the maker's words: WARNING! Powering off Gateways and/or Base Stations may leave lone workers or employees without safety monitoring and alerting during this time. graceindustries.com

  • With audio turned off there is no low-battery sound. The warning means less than 3 h is left, and Grace says to charge at once.

In the maker's words: Important: If audio is turned off, there will be no low battery sound. graceindustries.com

  • The product page lists the WF2's intrinsic safety as not rated; Grace's intrinsically safe pendants are other models (TPASS 3, SuperCELL SC500).

In the maker's words: Not rated graceindustries.com

  • It is tested as a Class A digital device for commercial environments; used in a residential area it is likely to cause radio interference.

In the maker's words: Operation of this equipment in a residential area is likely to cause harmful interference graceindustries.com

07 · FAQ

Grace's answers on running a WorkForce system

Is a subscription required?

Not for local use: pendants and on-site bases work within the facility with no required subscription. Remote alerting, cloud dashboards and off-site visibility are cloud-connected options that can be added when needed.

From the maker's site
How do pendants and monitoring bases work together?

Workers wear the pendants (WorkForce, TPASS 3 or SuperCELL), which raise the alerts. Gateways such as the GMG, GFG, PWA and MS3000 receive them and pass them to Grace Cloud Connect for real-time monitoring.

From the maker's site
What do locator beacons and repeaters add?

Repeaters extend radio coverage across large or obstructed sites, and beacons provide a last known location when an alert is raised, so responders reach the worker sooner.

From the maker's site
Can one supervisor watch several workers?

Yes. Grace says WorkForce supervisor configurations and its connected monitoring options can track alarms and worker status across crews and work areas.

From the maker's site
Does it work at remote or temporary sites?

Grace says yes: its portable gateways and locator beacons are designed for remote and temporary worksites where no fixed infrastructure exists.

From the maker's site
Does the system replace site safety procedures?

No. Grace says its systems support a safety programme by improving alerting and response, and should be used alongside site procedures, training, PPE and communication plans.
